Kampo Herbology is a telemedecine service that offers face-to-face online herbal consultation and treatment during this time of crisis.

Operated by Nigel Dawes M.A. L.Ac., a renowned practitioner of acupuncture, Shiatsu, and Kampo herbal medicine, Kampo Herbology has been created as an online clinical service where patients can receive a consultation and be treated remotely to meet their ongoing health needs, including immune-enhancement and symptom management. This service includes:

  • virtual consultations via Zoom, involving detailed history, questioning and tongue analysis leading to an herbal prescription

  • delivery of herbal formulas to your doorstep free of charge within the NY city area and by drop-ship service via UPS or FedEx for those living elsewhere

By initiating this virtual form of practice, Nigel hopes to continue serving the community he has done since 1994, one that has been abruptly deprived of some forms of alternative healthcare due to the reaction to this pandemic.

What’s Kampo Herbology?

Nigel Dawes M.A. L.Ac. is the premiere practitioner of the Kampo style of herbology in the United States. Kampo is a specialized Japanese method of diagnostics and prescription based on classical herbal formulas as outlined in one of the earliest texts of East Asian Medicine, the Shang Han Za Bing Lun.

This text dates from the later Han Dynasty (25-220CE) and lays out systematic herbal treatment strategies for various infectious diseases which are still in active use today throughout East Asia including during this time of the COVID-19 outbreak. Read more here.

Using an assessment of the patient's constitution and symptoms, an herbal formula is prescribed specifically targeted to treat the patient's overall condition. The patient is subsequently closely monitored for possible modifications or changes to the original prescription.
